Wang T. Lookbook

Project Overview

This collaboration with the talented designer Thomas To focused on creating a studio lookbook campaign for his latest collection. Thom’s design philosophy centers on taking classic, foundational wardrobe silhouettes and quietly subverting them from the inside out using hyper-precise, architectural pattern-making and premium craftsmanship.
At a glance, pieces like a structured button-down or tailored black trousers present an understated, classic profile. Upon closer inspection, complex design engineering reveals itself — opposing seam angles, hidden buttoning panels that alter pattern lines, functional reversible construction with high-end hardware, and custom trouser cuffs contoured to specific footwear. Even unseen interiors such as pockets feature complete, clean finishing rather than raw stitching.

Project Goals

  • Commercial Studio Lookbook: Deliver clean, articulate imagery designed to highlight how garments layer, fall, and fit on the body against a non-distracting background.

  • Macro & Structural Detail: Capture close-up construction shots showcasing seam precision, hidden closures, and material texture alongside full-length fashion frames.

  • Rapid Turnaround: Provide immediate JPG previews on set for time-sensitive marketing needs, followed shortly after with fully edited RAW files.

Pre-Production

Translating architectural garment construction to flat two-dimensional imagery requires careful planning around contrast, shadow density, and fabric detail.
Our visual strategy utilized Fashion Grey seamless paper to establish an upscale, neutral canvas that isolates the subject while providing ultimate control over tone, contrast, and depth. To capture full front-to-back sharpness across all garment planes, exposure and lighting were structured around a high, soft main key light paired with fill strobes to maintain a controlled 4:1 lighting ratio, targeting a 50–70mm focal range between f/8 and f/12.

Technical Execution

Execution was structured around tight time management, real-time tethered evaluation, and direct collaboration.
Designer Thomas To and production assistant/stylist Fiona Grace arrived one hour prior to camera-ready time to prep garments, build the set, and tune lighting output. Shooting tethered into Capture One allowed us to evaluate garment fit, drape, and micro-details live with Thomas throughout the session.
Over a two-hour shooting block, we rotated models Abigail Mahaffey, Michelle, and Sam Riera with one look each. Coverage was split between full-length structural portraits, mid-length layering compositions, and macro detail shots highlighting hardware, custom cuffs, and opposing seam geometries.
Thomas walked away immediately after the shoot with image previews for immediate marketing needs, followed by fully edited deliverables.

Special thanks to everyone involved on this shoot! It was an incredible team to collaborate with from start to finish.
