Fashion Collaboration

Project Overview

A studio collaboration between SCC Visual Media, SCC Fashion Design, and SMG Model Management. The team captured lookbook and editorial assets for designers Thomas, Catlin, and Lola, featuring models Neveah, Fatima, Mufasa, and Avery. I was lucky to be teamed up with fellow photography students, Atticus and Tenzin.

Pre-Production

I analyzed the models’ current portfolio of headshots to see what patterns emerged and what types of photography were missing. Since color would be key for creating an harmony with the designer clothing and the model, I chose a seamless backdrop that would compliment the clothing materials and skin tone of the models. A mood board was established that pulled together the inspired qualities of the shoot. From that collection, I established three lighting setups that could quickly and efficiently be switched around to create a wide variety of shots for our designers and models to pick from.

  • High Key (2:1 Ratio)

  • Fashion Look (4:1 Ratio)

  • Low Key (8:1 Ratio)

Technical Execution

I created our equipment list to prepare for the shoot along with what items each photographer would bring. Shooting from my camera and laptop using Capture One, I developed our file management strategy to not only keep the photographers’ images separate, but to also keep track of the model and designer session for quick processing and distribution of our assets.

On the day of the shoot, Models and Designers rotated between sets in 30-minute blocks with 20 minutes of active shooting per model for the three photographers on our set. To prevent file mixing and speed up delivery, we tethered into a single Capture One workstation and manually switched the destination folder for each photographer at every rotation.

Special thanks to instructor Matt Villanueva, the Fashion Design faculty, and SMG Management.
